Ederson says he watches replays of his passes to ensure he is always making the right decision.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has revolutionised the position at the top of the game with an incredible skill for picking out team-mates and starting attacks.

Exceptionally composed with the ball at his feet, the 31-year-old is capable of finding a City player from any range and under an extreme amount of pressure.

This has been crucial in allowing City to dominate possession and build attacks from the back under Pep Guardiola.

Our success playing this way has seen goalkeepers all over the world attempt to emulate our man’s prowess for distribution.

Ederson himself says that it takes a lot of work away from the pitch to ensure he’s at his best in this area.

“This process is very important for us, especially in the build-up stage of play. When I first joined City, I was practicing this a lot more,” he said.

“Now because of the number of games we have in such a short amount of time we are not able to train much in this respect.

“But I always try and review games and go back and watch and have a look at the decisions I made, whether they are the right decision or decisions I could have made better.

“The key for me in this aspect is keeping calm and visualising plays before they happen, seeing the possibilities of trying to pass to teammates because 95% of the time one of my team-mates are going to be free.”

Ederson’s outstanding ability with his feet has seen calls for him to take more penalties for City.

The goalkeeper has also referred to former Brazil stopper Rogerio Ceni as his hero.

The Sao Paulo man was famed for penalty taking during his professional career, scoring more than 100 times.

Having converted spot kicks in shoot-outs with Real Madrid in the Champions League and Manchester United in the Community Shield, Ederson is hopeful of stepping up again at some stage.

“I don’t get the opportunity to practice them much, maybe once or twice in training,” he began.

“I am always telling my team-mates that if it comes to a penalty shootout, I want to be able to take one and I want to take the fifth one!

“It is all about pressure, but I try to stay calm and that is the main difference. I try to stay calm as if it is a training session, relax myself.

“A lot of players feel this pressure, I do as well, but it is something I enjoy.”

The goalkeeper is one of the most decorated players in City’s history having joined in 2017 and helped us to 18 major honours in that time.

Early in his eighth season at the Club, he is calm about how City have begun in the hunt for a record extending fifth successive Premier League title.

“We want to win the title every season, but every season brings different games, teams have new players and new signings, some players get injured,” he stated.

“There are still 96 points to play for this season, so there’s a lot of things yet to happen.

“Every game is different and every team are going to pick up points and every team are going to drop points.

“We are in second position at the moment, a lot of things are going to change throughout the season, but I hope we can stay consistent and stay near the top.”
