Joe Jacobson has told FLW his verdict on Sean Dyche becoming a front-runner to take over at Leicester City
Joe Jacobson is unsure whether Sean Dyche is the right long-term fit for Leicester City amid links to the ex-Everton boss.
According to Football Insider, the Foxes are readying an approach for the 53-year-old as they seek potential replacements for Ruud van Nistelrooy.
It is expected that the Dutchman will depart the club at the end of the campaign after overseeing their relegation from the Premier League.
Dyche is currently out of work after leaving Everton in January, having spent almost two years with the Toffees, ensuring their safety in the top flight amid points deductions and financial issues.
Jacobson believes that Dyche would be a great choice for Leicester if they want to take a change in philosophy, but has raised some concerns over his style of play.
He is unsure whether the ex-Burnley manager would be the right fit for a long-term project with the Foxes, suggesting his arrival would mean the need for a rebuild of the squad.
“It’s a tough one because I don’t see Leicester, the way that they’ve wanted to play the last couple of seasons, especially under Maresca in the Championship, it’s very different to Sean Dyche,” Jacobson exclusively told Football League World.
“Especially at the beginning of the season as well with Cooper, they played a very different type of football to Sean Dyche, so is it a case of starting again, building again?
“I don’t see Dyche as necessarily a long-term project for them.
“I still believe that Leicester have a squad capable of going straight back to the Premier League, and maybe they’re thinking that he’s more suited to Premier League football if they do go up again.
“He’s got more of a chance to keep them in the Premier League, and then maybe consolidate that way.
“So I understand the situation, I understand why his name has been linked to it.
“But for me, if you’ve got a long-term plan and vision for what you want your football club to be like and style, which they obviously thought they did have, I don’t think Dyche necessarily matches up to what they’ve had recently.
“However, if you want results, and you want your team to win and be solid, then he’s obviously the main choice.”
Leicester need a refresh after how disappointing this season has been for the club.
Dyche is a proven Premier League manager that knows his way around a Championship promotion battle.
While the change in style is a dramatic shift from the last time they were competing in the second tier, it might be better suited to their long-term aims of remaining in the top flight.
