Arsenal resume Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City, and they will be looking to leave with all three points and move to the top of the Premier League table.

The Gunners secured a 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur last Sunday but could have scored more had Gabriel Martinelli squared the ball to Bukayo Saka instead of attempting to score when through on goal.

His effort was saved, but Arsenal would have grabbed the opener earlier had the Brazilian passed to his teammate, who had an empty goal in his front, and Ian Wright wants him to do better going forward.

“Gabby, again his mindset at the moment for me is one of, because (Leandro) Trossard might, because Trossard’s gonna play and he doesn’t know if he’s gonna play, he feels like he has to prove something,” the Gunners legend said on the latest episode of Wrighty’s House.

“He’s playing with that, ‘I need to get my chance, I need to take it so people can say, yeah, we can’t forget Gabby’.

“Whereas he’s just got to do what he does in getting past people, get the ball across, we score the goal, everything settles down and then we may be able to create something else.

“Going back to that chance, Gabby maybe should have squared to Saka, I just want, if that happens next week, I just want him to understand, it’s a long season, we’re four games in, you know what I mean? You’ll get your goals.”

Attackers are often urged to be selfish when presented with goalscoring opportunities, but Arsenal cannot afford to miss chances against Man City as they could be few and far between.

They need to be very clinical against a team yet to drop points this season, and Martinelli and others have to work together if the Gunners are to secure victory against the league leaders.

The Brazilian will get plenty of chances to prove his quality, and whether he scores or not should be the least of his worries right now as long as he can help the team secure much-needed points on their way to their first title since 2004.
