Former Chelsea player Emmanuel Petit has warned players being targeted by the Blues to think very carefully about joining the club.
Chelsea have spent a lot of money and signed a lot of players since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital took over in 2022.
The singings of Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto have been huge successes, but there’s other such as Kalidou Koulibaly who left after just one season.
The Blues have built a squad with some of the most exciting young talent from around the world and there are signs they could have something special over the next few years.
It’s very much still a work in progress as these young players continue to develop, although there’s no guarantees any of them will become as good as the club believe they can be.
Chelsea have already shown they are prepared to be ruthless with players and they aren’t afraid to bench players or freeze them out.

Raheem Sterling was an example of that over the summer and Chelsea were ruthless in how they handled that situation, a decision Chris Sutton believes was the right one.
Carney Chukwuemeka is another young talent the Blues signed in 2022, but he simply isn’t playing because the manager clearly doesn’t believe in him, with the midfielder now perhaps regretting joining the club given how things have panned out.
Former Blue Petit has issued a word of warning to those players considering joining Chelsea and urged them to be very careful.
“If I was a footballer being targeted by Chelsea, I’d be very, very careful about making my decision,” he told Casino Hawks as cited on X.com.

“If they don’t have confidence in you then you’ll end up on the bench and then in the stand and then gone. Be very careful when you join Chelsea.”
Petit does have a point and it’s important players give consideration to whether Chelsea is the right move for them because as quickly as they joined they can just as easily be cast aside given the high standards and fierce competition for places.
