Blackburn Rovers have had a busier summer than most expected them to have, however, John Eustace's side are still in need of a few more additions to take the team to another level.

Rovers have started the season excellently, picking up four points from their opening two games, scoring 12 goals and advancing past the first round of the Carabao Cup.

It has been a far cry from the torrid 2023/24 campaign that Blackburn had, surviving on the final day of the season thanks to a Sammie Szmodics double against Leicester City.

But, his sale to Ipswich Town, and the loss of other key players, has left the club without solid depth in multiple positions.

There are less than two weeks left of the transfer window, with the deadline coming on August 30, so Eustace will have to act quickly to bring in any targets.

Blackburn are in need of a goalkeeper

Although Aynsley Pears has not had the worst of starts to the new campaign, he may not have expected to still be Blackburn's number one at this point.

He played just 26 times last season, and has been utilised as the number two since his arrival at Ewood Park from Middlesbrough in 2020.

Rovers have failed to acquire a quality first-choice shot-stopper up to now, and must act quickly to fix this issue, according to FLW'sBlackburn Fan Pundit, Toby Wilding: "It’s hard to narrow it down to one when I think there are quite a lot of positions in the squad that that still need strengthening, but I would probably go for Daniel Iversen in goal as one who's been linked to.

"Pears is the only sort of senior option in that position and, obviously as we saw last season and at the start of this season, he does have costly errors in him, so it would be a risk not to strengthen that position."

Iversen has to be the priority for Blackburn

After a loan to Stoke City in the second half of the 2023/24 season, Iversen has been looking for another club, either on a loan or permanently.

His deal at the King Power Stadium is not due to expire until next summer, but that has not stopped Leicester from putting a £1.5 million asking price on the head of the 27-year-old, who also has a £25,000-a-week contract, according to Alan Nixon via Patreon.

But Toby thinks that this should not deter Blackburn from submitting an offer: "Of those I've seen linked with that goalkeeping role at Rovers, I would prefer Iversen. He's proven at this level, but he's still young, at 27, to be a long-term option.

"Looking at the price of him and seeing £1.5 million being reported, maybe with the sort of funds that have come in to the club this year from Szomdics, Adam Wharton and even the David Raya sell on clause, there is a case to be made that potentially it could be affordable as well."
