Adrien Rabiot (29) suggested in his first press conference as an Olympique de Marseille player that he would be unlikely to make his debut in Sunday’s derby against Olympique Lyonnais.

“I think I won’t have much of a presence on Sunday. I worked during the summer, but I’m not sure it’s enough. I hope to play as soon as possible,” the France international explained to the gathered journalists. Rabiot left Juventus this summer as a free agent, and while he played for France during the summer at the Euros, he had no preseason ahead of this campaign.

It would be surprising to see Roberto De Zebri field his new signing from the start of the Lyon match, especially with the midfielder likely needing to get up to fitness compared to players who have spent the last few weeks competing in match scenarios such as Geoffrey Kondogbia (31) and even Valentin Rongier (29).

Despite only being five matches into the new season, the Choc des Olympiques could be a crucial game for both rivals. Marseille are hoping to add some credence to their promise of a title challenge, while Lyon are looking for a statement victory to gain some momentum after a slow start to the campaign.
