New Chelsea signing Jamie Gittens has revealed why he decided to swap Borussia Dortmund for the Blues this summer.
Chelsea officially announced the signing of Gittens on Saturday, and the England under-21 international has signed a seven year contract at Stamford Bridge.
The deal for Gittens is said to be worth £48.5m plus a further £3.5m in add ons, and the 20-year-old provides a much needed option on the left wing.
With Jadon Sancho moving on and Mykhailo Mudryk suspended Chelsea were desperate for an option on the left wing, and view Gittens as the man to fill the void.
Chelsea tried to sign Gittens before the Club World Cup, but were unable to agree a deal with Dortmund, and he’s on likely to make his debut against Bayer Leverkusen or AC Milan at the start of August.

Gittens fits the criteria for signings under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership, and is a young player with a lot of potential.
The former Dortmund man spent time in the Chelsea academy when he was a lot younger, and in a full circle moment he’s back at the club and revealed why he decided to sign.
“Enzo Maresca was obviously showing me the way that Chelsea played and the way he has to play with wingers,” he told Chelsea’s website as quoted on X.com.

“The system is built for wingers to attack their full-backs and create stuff. And I thought doing it with Enzo in this system is the perfect fit for me.”
Gittens scored 12 goals in 49 appearances last season, including four in the Champions League, and will be hoping to improve on that next season.
With Gittens signed it looks like another winger could be heading to exit door with Noni Madueke closing in on a move to Arsenal.
Madueke has agreed personal terms on a five year deal, and the Gunners are preparing to make their first offer to Chelsea.
It’s believed Chelsea want more than £50m, but it remains unclear if Arsenal are prepared to do a deal at that price.
