Chelsea have come under fierce criticism for the way the club’s been run as well as their youth focused transfer policy.

However, with the Blues achieving their goals last season and getting a first trophy as a group things appear to be heading back in the right direction.

Whether the Chelsea project will be a success only time will tell but a lot of clubs are following suit in signing younger players.

Mikel, who’s not been afraid to criticise Chelsea and the current ownership believes the project is now heading in the right direction.

“I think we can all see now that the project is now heading in the right direction,” he told Give Me Sport.

“All these talented young players are starting to gel together as a team, and they have a good manager that knows how to handle and improve them.

“I like Enzo Maresca a lot. He needs to stay at the football club.”

It’s believed Chelsea want Maresca to remain in charge until the next decade, and it will be interesting to see how he gets on in the Champions League next season.

Maresca needs to be backed

Having had a successful campaign it’s vital Chelsea back Maresca in the transfer market and the club have already completed the signing of Liam Delap.
