As they looked to retain their (Under 21s) Euros crown that they won back in 2023.

Thomas Tuchel’s belief that Tino Livramento could get far more out of participation in this tournament, rather than part of the senior England squad against Andorra and Senegal…

Anthony Gordon was player of the tournament two years ago as Lee Carsley led the Young Lions to Under 21s Euros glory.

Tino Livramento couldn’t have made a better start to this 2025 tournament, he was man of the match as the England Under 21s beat the Czech Republic 3-1 in their opening group game. The NUFC star was excellent in defence and going forward, getting an assist for the second goal as his pace and skill saw him go past opponents into the penalty area and lay the goal on.

England play their second group game against Slovenia today (a 5pm kick-off that you can watch on Channel 4) and ahead of the match, Tino Livramento has been talking about that Thomas Tuchel conversation and decision.

“I see it as a privilege [to be asked to be a leader for the Under 21s in this tournament].

“Thomas Tuchel obviously spoke to me about the senior squad and said that he wanted to speak to Lee [Carsley] as well about giving me that role.

“I’ve never played a tournament for England at any age group.

“I’ve always missed through injuries.

“I think that’s a big thing for me, coming here, getting this experience and playing with loads of boys that I’ve come through the age groups with.”

Lee Carsley has also spoken ahead of this afternoon’s match and specifically, Tino Livramento:

“It’s his first tournament for England and we believe that if we can have success in these tournaments with these experiences, it’s going to help the seniors in the long term.

‘But that’s got to be his [Tino Livamento’s] goal, playing in the senior team.

“He’s definitely got the capabilities to do.’

Will Osula is also involved at these Under 21s Euro finals, Denmark taking on Holland at 8pm tonight. The Newcastle United forward made a huge impact off the bench in their first group game, trailing 2-1 to the Ukraine, Will Osula got an assist and then the winning goal himself!
