Former Leeds United defender Jon Newsome has admitted that people think he is ‘jumping on’ Whites star Brenden Aaronson whenever he is critical of the attacking midfielder.
Leeds signed the USA international back in 2022 when they were a Premier League side and they paid a hefty £24.7m for him.
Last year, he was on loan at Bundesliga club Union Berlin and this season he is back at Leeds as the Whites are looking to gain automatic promotion to the Premier League.
Newsome, though, has not been pleased with Aaronson’s performances and he feels the American plays in the number 10 position because Daniel Farke has no one else to deploy there.
He has regularly voiced criticism of the player and he feels that people think that he is ‘jumping on’ Aaronson, but is sticking to his view.
“I know people think that I jump on him”, Newsome said on BBC Radio Leeds about Aaronson.
“But is he good enough? I do not think he is.
“I do not think he is the answer to Leeds United’s number 10 issue.
“I think he is playing there, because you feel like there is nobody else to play there.”
Aaronson has made six goal contributions in 21 Championship matches so far and he will look to have a telling impact in his creative role for the rest of the campaign.
