One of the biggest challenges for FC Barcelona this season will now arrive in the form of Inter Milan. After having qualified to the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League, both sides are set to clash with one another for a place in the final. For Barcelona, it is a golden opportunity to make their mark.
Despite losing to Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their quarterfinals clash against the German side, Barça’s first leg score was simply too great for Dortmund to overcome. Thanks to that, Hansi Flick’s side is now among the final four of the competition.
However, Inter Milan will be no easy opponent to overcome. Defensively solid, effective in transitions, and very well organized, the Italian side is certainly a threat to Barcelona. Still, the same can be said for Hansi Flick’s side and their players as well.
In fact, players like Lamine Yamal could pose a massive threat to the Italian side as well. Recently, as highlighted by Mundo Deportivo, even 26-year-old Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni seemed to be at a loss for words when asked about how he plans to stop the Barcelona winger.
“I don’t know.”
Valued at €180 million by Transfermarkt, Yamal is a player who always seems to attract a lot of attention. Even former Italian coach Fabio Capello recently spoke about him, but his words were more focused on downplaying the youngster’s ability.
However, Bastoni did suggest that while Inter Milan were not individually better than all other remaining semi-finalists in the Champions League, the Italian side are formidable as a collective unit:
“Individually, we may not be as strong as the other three semifinalists, but as a team, we can beat any of them… If we stop working together, we risk collapsing. But we have the ability to come together in difficult moments and strike at the right time.”
The truth of the matter is that both of these teams have weapons that can hurt the other side. With Barcelona being led by Hansi Flick and Inter Milan being led by Simone Inzaghi, both sides are well-coached and have showcased their strengths throughout this season
