Plymouth Argyle have most definitely got their money's worth so far in the short time that club record signing Maksym Talovierov has been at Home Park, but with a League One season on the cards, they now face a battle to keep him.

The formidable centre back shone in Argyle's upset FA Cup win against Premier League champions Liverpool, and netted the opener against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the subsequent round.

In the Championship, a knee injury may have limited his involvement towards the end of the season, but otherwise, he was one of the first names on the team sheet for a Plymouth side who picked up the 10th most points in the league since his arrival on January 31st.

Clearly, those in the stands at Home Park will be desperate for the Ukrainian international to continue his time at Plymouth and, given the very possible absence of a relegation release clause in his contract, FLW's Plymouth fan pundit, Chris, feels that he will still be wearing Green come September.

Given his performances since his arrival from LASK, it would make sense for Maxi to be near the top of the summer shopping list for a few different sides.

However, in an interview with Football League World, Plymouth Argyle fan pundit Chris believes that the upcoming rumours will simply be just that.

"Many transfer rumours are starting to flow on social media platforms and many are surrounding those who have been relegated from the Championship," he said.

"There was speculation that, when we broke our transfer record for Maxi, he signed with a relegation release clause, but that has never been confirmed by the media or by the club.

"However, newly promoted sides from League One, such as Birmingham and Wrexham, may be interested in acquiring his services as he's shown his talent against clubs such as Manchester City.

"I believe we will be able to retain his services [though], as we would demand a high fee if clubs are interested."

Championship lure may be too much for Plymouth to retain Maksym Talovierov

In an Instagram post following Talovierov's return in Plymouth's win over Preston North End, where results elsewhere almost confirmed their relegation, the Ukrainian seemed to indicate that he may, indeed, stay on at Argyle despite their League One status, saying that he and the team will "work hard as ever to bounce back."

However, with the side now dropping down to the third tier, Maxi may have to look elsewhere to put him in the best position to play international football.

Chris concluded: "However, Maxi may be keen to go from strength to strength by ensuring he still has Championship football to play and to continue his international career."

With the World Cup taking place at the end of next season, Talovierov, who has seven Ukraine caps, will likely be wanting to put himself in the best position to represent his country in America, Canada and Mexico next summer.

Whilst he is beloved at his current club, a potential departure for the 24-year-old would ultimately depend on who displays interest between now and the end of the upcoming summer window.
