Hull City are poised to further capitalise on their positive relationship with Liverpool, targeting yet another promising talent from Anfield following the successful loan spells of Tyler Morton and Fabio Carvalho.

Morton spent the whole 2023/24 season on Humberside, making 39 appearances, scoring three goals and getting five assists.

Carvalho, meanwhile, joined him there in January after an unsuccessful time at RB Leipzig, bagging nine goals and two assists in just 20 matches.

Now, according to the Hull Daily Mail, the Tigers are reportedly interested in securing James McConnell on a season-long loan, aiming to offer the young midfielder regular Championship football and a similar platform to develop his skills.

McConnell's breakthrough season at Liverpool

The 19-year-old, who began his career at Sunderland’s academy before moving to Liverpool, made a notable debut in the Europa League group stages during a 5-1 victory over Toulouse last October.

He subsequently made his Premier League debut in a 3-0 win against Brentford at Anfield and participated in Liverpool’s EFL Cup final win over Chelsea at Wembley.

However, despite his promising performances, the central midfielder has mostly featured in youth team matches after the Reds' mid-season injury crisis finally eased.

Hull set to undergo a squad overhaul

Hull City are preparing for a significant summer overhaul at the MKM Stadium, with a new manager expected to be appointed soon and a considerable influx of new players anticipated.

The club plans to bring in up to 10 new recruits to fill the gaps left by recent departures and loan signings are expected to continue to play a pivotal role in Hull City's transfer strategy.

The club's effective use of the loan system last season brought in not only Morton and Carvalho but also other promising talents such as Liam Delap, Anass Zaroury, Ryan Giles and Noah Ohio.

A loan move for McConnell to a side with a proven track record in nurturing Liverpool's young talents could be the best option for all concerned.
