It’s no secret that Liverpool have been in the market for a striker this summer, to add to the plethora of players that they’ve already signed. The next player to pledge his future with the Reds is Hugo Ekitike, with Liverpool agreeing to sign the Frenchman for reported £69 million, with the potential to rise to £78 million with additional fees.

After Eintracht Frankfurt’s 3-2 win over FSV Frankfurt on Saturday, Ekitike’s manager, Dino Toppmöller, said that the Frenchman’s departure is ‘a bitter loss’, with the player helping his side secure Champions League football for the upcoming campaign. Ekitike scored 22 goals across all competitions last season and registered eight assists, proving himself as an excellent talisman for the German outfit.

Liverpool’s reported first-choice centre forward target was Alexander Isak, who proved his ability to fans around the world with 23 goals and six assists in 34 Premier League appearances. The Swede had a dip in form after returning from injury but still managed to seemingly convince Arne Slot and most football fans of his quality. Newcastle reportedly told Liverpool that Isak was not for sale, but they themselves were lining up a move for Ekitike, before he agreed a move to Anfield.

At the end of a bit of a mini transfer sage, however, it was Liverpool who secured the signature of the Rémois.

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg posted on X stating it was ‘a done deal’ and it’s already received the inevitable Fabrizio Romano ‘here we go’.

Liverpool remain in the transfer market for a centre back, with eyes still heavily fixated on the signature of Marc Guehi. We likely expect to see some Anfield exits to align with FFP guidelines and avoid a reprimand from the football finance police, but it seems like The Reds won’t be settling for Ekitike as thier final addition in this window!
