The Frenchman picked up a goal and an assist on debut
The Frenchman joined from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £79million move earlier this summer and has hit the ground running on Merseyside, scoring on his competitive debut in the Community Shield before adding another goal and an assist in his Premier League bow, firing the Reds to a 4-2 win over Bournemouth.
It is a long time coming for the striker, who said he has been waiting to play in the Premier League since childhood.
“It is a dream,” he said full-time.
“I always dreamed to play here in Premier League, so I just enjoy every minute here in this amazing stadium. I wanted to be in the crowd!”
While Liverpool opened their title defence with a win, it was far from a convincing performance. They gave up a two-goal lead in the second half, before Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah scored late on to take all three points.
Ekitike said that both he and the team have plenty of work to do.
He continued: “We have so much to do to get better and achieve our goals.
“[I had] a good performance. I could do better. The most important thing is the win, the mentality we showed.
“Obviously we wanted to win for the people who came tonight and for Diogo, and that is what we did.
“I think I will get better and do even more for this team.”
He also admitted that he has had to adapt his style of play since arriving in England, where he is not afforded the same space he was used to in the Bundesliga.
“I think it is natural I change my way to play here, because it is different football with more intensity, defenders are more strong.
“We have tight space here. I had so much more space in Germany. That is why I try to link and run behind.
“We have to find the way to succeed with the details because it is not good anymore. We have to do better.”
