Vincent Kompany’s side narrowly trail Serie A leaders ahead of crucial quarter-final second-leg decider at the San Siro
Inter Milan host Bayern Munich tonight in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie.
The Nerazzurri returned to Italy from last week’s initial clash in Germany with a narrow 2-1 advantage after substitute Davide Frattesi struck a dramatic late winner just minutes after Thomas Muller followed the announcement that he would be leaving Bayern in the summer after 25 years by cancelling out Lautaro Martinez’s brilliant first-half opener off the bench.
Inter will be confident of reaching the last four of Europe’s elite club competition, having won again at home to Cagliari on Saturday to temporarily move six points clear of closest rivals Napoli in the Serie A title race during what has been a strong campaign under Simone Inzaghi.
But equally Bayern will believe they have what it takes to engineer a turnaround under Vincent Kompany and stay on track for a home final appearance at the Allianz Arena on May 31, with the likes of Harry Kane and Michael Olise in strong form.
They were held to an entertaining 2-2 draw at home by Borussia Dortmund in the latest edition of Der Klassiker at the weekend, missing the chance to go eight points clear of reigning champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga title battle.
