It has been reported that Wrexham have reached an agreement with Man City for the permanent signing of Doyle.

It’s believed that the Welsh outfit will pay £8 million for the centre-back, who will be joining the Red Dragons in their first year in the division since 1982.

It’s understood that Sheffield United and Rangers were also interested in the player, but that the Scottish giants have now pulled out of the running.

Doyle’s decision has reportedly been made with location in mind, with the defender living in Manchester at the moment.

The 21-year-old has earned a promising reputation for his performances in the Championship over the last three seasons.

Doyle has made 98 appearances in the second tier across three loan spells, and even helped Leicester gain promotion to the Premier League in the 2023/24 campaign.

Wrexham’s busy summer

Wrexham have been quite active this summer after Phil Parkinson led the team to promotion from League One at the first attempt.

The club have signed a number of players, including Nathan Broadhead, Lewis O’Brien, Liberato Cacace, Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, George Thomason and Ryan Hardie.

Free agent moves have also been completed for Josh Windass and Danny Ward.

Next up for Wrexham will be a home clash against Sheffield Wednesday on 23 August in a 3pm kick-off.

Doyle signing is a big move for Wrexham

Wrexham have made a lot of signings this summer, but the cost of Doyle is another level up on their other deals.

The centre-back is still young and has a lot of experience at this level for someone who is only 21.

This could be a very smart move, and should add some technical quality to their defensive options.

It is a real statement of the club’s ambitions that they’ve beaten Sheffield United and Rangers to his signature with such an expensive fee attached, which would’ve been unimaginable just a couple of years ago.
