Comparing Sam Johnstone's Wolves salary with Leeds United's goalkeeping options

Leeds United have been linked with a move for Wolves goalkeeper Sam Johnstone ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to The Sun, the Whites are tracking the goalkeeper as a potential option as Daniel Farke eyes a possible replacement for Illan Meslier.

The Frenchman has made high-profile errors this season, but Leeds have confirmed their promotion back to the Premier League with two games to spare.

Meslier was dropped for Karl Darlow after the side’s 2-2 draw with Swansea City at the end of March, and has not returned to the starting lineup since, meaning he’s potentially played his final game for the club.

Sam Johnstone’s Wolves wages

Johnstone signed for Wolves last summer from Crystal Palace after two years with the London outfit.

It was reported by the BBC that the deal cost the Premier League club £10 million, with the club seeking competition for starting keeper José Sá.

The move to Molineux netted the 32-year-old a contract worth £45,000 per week, making him the best paid goalkeeper at the club.

Johnstone agreed a four-year contract, but has struggled for game time at Wolves in his first season in the team.

The England international has made just seven appearances in the Premier League this year, with his last three games all coming in the FA Cup.

However, Johnstone’s weekly salary is greater than that of Sá, who is earning £40,000 per week as the first choice in Vitor Pereira’s side.

Daniel Bentley is also in the Wolves squad, with the third-choice shot stopper receiving £20,000.

Tom King is also in the squad, with the 29-year-old earning £10,000 per week.

This earned him a contract worth £30,000 per week, and a deal that doesn’t expire until the summer of 2026.

With that deal coming into its final 12 months, there is uncertainty over his future with Leeds and a summer move could be on the cards.

This opens the door for someone like Johnstone to make the switch just 12 months after arriving at Wolves.

His lack of game time under Pereira could lead to a move, especially with the Yorkshire outfit now also competing in the top flight.
