Newcastle United have been in the market for a new right winger this summer.
They recently launched a £45 million bid to sign Anthony Elanga, which was turned down by Nottingham Forest.
It emerges that Newcastle will have to break their transfer record if they want to land the 23-year-old, as Forest will only consider bids in excess of £60 million, per Daily Mirror.
The Tricky Trees are under no immediate pressure to sell players after securing new broadcast revenues through Conference League qualification.
Newcastle are said to have the funds but are unlikely to match such a high valuation.
Striker Alexander Isak is their record buy, with the Sweden international costing them £63m to sign from Real Sociedad in 2022.
The potential costs over a move for Elanga means Eddie Howe’s side may turn their focus to Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo or West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus. Although a deal for any of them is also expected to cost them a huge outlay.
Elanga has been a star performer for Forest since joining the club from Manchester United in the summer of 2023.
He played a pivotal role in helping his team secure a seventh-place Premier League finish last season, bagging six goals and 11 assists in 38 appearances.
Elanga currently has three years left on his contract at the City Ground.
