After initially struggling for form in the Premier League following a reported €9.5m switch from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2021, the USMNT international began to hit his stride after the Canaries' relegation under Dean Smith, with the first of his many purple patches in front of goal coming between August and October 2022.

The 25-year-old has since been one of the Championship's leading lights in a period which has seen plenty of change in terms of management at Carrow Road, with Sargent now under his fourth permanent manager in East Anglia in the form of Johannes Hoff Thorup.

Despite an injury-hit campaign last term as Norwich reached the play-offs under the Dane's predecessor, David Wagner, Sargent would still see his name linked with the likes of Premier League outfit, AFC Bournemouth and MLS outfits St Louis City and FC Cincinnati.

And although he has also missed 13 games of the current campaign with a groin issue, the clinical frontman has recently seen his name linked with Nottingham Forest, who are undoubtedly the feel-good story of the Premier League this season, with Nuno Espírito Santo's side sat in third place with nine games to go.

It has recently been revealed that Norwich have set an asking price of between €15-20m for Sargent's signature, and with that in mind, FLW has looked at some extra financial details which Forest will have to consider.

Sargent has netted 12 goals and accumulated a further five assists this season in Yellow and Green, making him the joint-fourth highest scorer in the division, and second in-line at Carrow Road, with Borja Sainz seeing his league-leading tally recently rise to 17.

The 27-time international penned his most recent contract in October 2023, with the deal running until 2028, with Florian Plettenberg's recent revelations also stating that there was no release clause inserted in negotiations.

According to estimated figures from Capology, Sargent is collecting a weekly salary of £25,000 per-week, which amounts to an annual figure of £1.3m.

The striker is said to have approximately £5.2m worth of earnings left on said contract, which also makes him the joint-third highest earner on Mark Attanasio's payroll alongside Kenny McLean, Emiliano Marcondes, Angus Gunn and Aston Villa loanee, Lewis Dobbin.

How Josh Sargent's estimated salary would impact Nottingham Forest's payroll

Despite being on track for a first finish in a European place since 1996, Capology estimates that Forest have the fifth-lowest payroll in the top flight with a weekly overall figure of £1,058,000 and an annual figure of £55,016,000 - only Bournemouth, Southampton, Brentford and Ipswich Town are said to have lower wage bills.

At present, if Forest were to offer Sargent the same weekly figure, the Missouri-born forward would be the joint-fourth lowest earner at the City GROUND alongside Jota Silva and five-goal winger, Anthony Elanga.

Sargent would also be jostling for a starting berth against a rejuvenated Chris Wood, with the experienced New Zealand international instrumental in the 'Tricky Trees' transformation under Nuno, netting 18 goals in 29 appearances and being rewarded for his efforts with a new deal which runs until 2027.
