After England beat Italy to reach the final of Women’s Euro 2025, we take a look at the family costs for the Lionesses team and how much they will have forked out for their loved ones to watch every game in Switzerland.
It comes after Georgia Stanway admitted England players are “putting our hands in our pockets” to make sure families can come over and support them.
She said: “I’m aware that Switzerland is a very expensive country. Even just for flights and hotels.
“The cost of living there is extremely high so we understand the demand on fans.”
England team players have had to think about costs such as tickets, accommodation and flights to get family members to watch their games in person at Women’s Euro 2025. The costs below will also apply to England supporters who have stayed out in Switzerland for the duration of the tournament.
The cheapest tickets available at Women’s Euro 2025 were for the knockout phase and quarter-finals.
For those matches, Category One tickets were available at a price of 40 Swiss Franc (£37.15), or Category Two tickets for 25 Swiss Franc (£23.22).
England though progressed to the semi-final where they defeated Italy 2-1 in a dramatic game.
The semi-finals and final at Euro 2025 had three pricing categories for tickets.
This ranged from £23.22 to £65 for the semi-final and between £27.87 to £83.60 for the final when converted to pounds.
In terms of ticket costs, it is likely that the England team will have paid for the higher category prices for their loved ones at every game of Women’s Euro 2025.
To buy the most expensive ticket for every game would have cost around £300 for each individual family member. However, if they kept costs cheap, this would have cost just under £144.
The England team set up their base camp in Zurich for Women’s Euro 2025, and they would have had to take into account the costs for family members to fly out to Switzerland to watch their games.
Women’s Euro 2025 got underway on July 2nd, while England played their first game against France on July 5th.
A flight from London to Zurich on July 1st cost around £150 for two people. However, returning home a day after the Women’s Euro 2025 final is more expensive.
To fly from Basel to London on July 28th with a checked bag will cost about £140.
While the flights to Switzerland were not too bad for the Women’s Euros, finding a place to stay during the tournament is a much bigger challenge.
A basic hotel in Zurich for the duration of the group stage (July 2nd to 13th) could have cost between £1,000 and £1,300 for just one room – an average of between £90 and £118 per night.
However, by the time of the final, England players will have survived an extra 15 days at the tournament from when the group stage ended.
So taking the average cost per night across the entirety of the tournament (July 2nd to 28th) could potentially have cost between £2,340 and just over £3,000.
So when taking into account match tickets, flights and accommodation, the cost to pay out on each individual family member could have cost England players somewhere in the region of £2,700 and £3,500.
However, this does not take into account any potential extra costs such as travel to and from games from their hotel, food and drink while out in Switzerland, and any other potential costs.
Also players might have put their family members in more expensive hotels or paid out more on flights.
The UK’s top betting sites have the Lionesses as second-favourites to win Euro 2025 and defend the trophy they won three years ago at Wembley Stadium.
Sarina Wiegman’s side are priced at 2/1 to win the tournament, with World Cup champions Spain the favourites to win the Euros at 8/15.
