With the current break from their MLS schedule, the LA Galaxy prepare for their first match in this year's Leagues Cup schedule. As last Friday's match against the Houston Dynamo got postponed, the defending MLS Cup winners benefited from a few extra days of rest.

Come Thursday night, the LA Galaxy close out their best month of soccer in 2025 by hosting Club Tijuana of the Mexican Liga BBVA MX. These two teams have faced each other a total of six times. Four of the matches have resulted in draws.

The LA Galaxy managed to make it as far as the Quarterfinals of the Concacaf Champions Cup earlier this year. After defeating Herediano, the Galaxy were ousted by Tigres UANL in a close game, 3-2 back in April.

How did the LA Galaxy fare in last year's Leagues Cup Tournament?

It will be exactly one year ago on Thursday from when the Los Angeles Galaxy won during their first game of the 2024 Leagues Cup. It also helped that they were playing a familiar foe in the San Jose Earthquakes.

Diego Fagundez gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead going into halftime. He scored in the 41st minute from the left side of the field. Gabriel Pec was credited with the assist.

After Jeremy Ebobisse tied it up 1-1 for San Jose, LA Galaxy forward Miguel Berry nailed the game winner in the 89th minute of play. Galaxy defender Miki Yamane had a beautiful entry pass that led to the goal.

The LA Galaxy faced a tougher challenge in their second game as they tied Guadalajara 2-2. If it weren't for Cade Cowell from Guadalajara, the Galaxy would have won 2-1. However, it went down to penalty kicks as the 2024 MLS Cup winners pulled off the win, 5-4.

Pec scored his third goal of the tournament in the final game of Group Play. Unfortunately, it was not enough as the Seattle Sounders had scored three goals in the first half. The Los Angeles Galaxy was eliminated last year following the 3-1 loss.

Despite not advancing in last year's Leagues Cup, the LA Galaxy earned a good measure of revenge against the Sounders. On the heels of strong performances from their stars Dejan Joveljic and Riqui Puig, the Galaxy beat Seattle 1-0 in the 2024 MLS Western Conference Finals.

The LA Galaxy didn't win the Leagues Cup in 2024, but they ended last year raising a different trophy.
