How Chelsea can push £35m asking price for talented attacker higher

Chelsea were already lining up some major sales this summer – the arrival of Joao Pedro has only intensified that need to move players on.
Top of the list to go now is surely Christopher Nkunku. Despite a nice moment scoring against Benfica in the Club World Cup on Saturday night, the Frenchman is a prime target to depart. He plays in a position which is now so crowded with options, plus has the pedigree to secure a really significant fee.

We expect a lot more chatter about a potential move for the former RB Leipzig man now that Joao Pedro has arrived, and already we’re hearing from CaughtOffside today that Arsenal and Man U are still considering bids.
They put a fee of just £35m out there, which would be far below what we’re hoping for, but possibly realistic given our obvious need to move him on. It also tallies with reports we heard from France earlier this year.
The 27 year old has plenty of talent, he just doesn’t quite fit in with how Enzo Maresca wants to play, and we’ve see plenty of evidence that the club are happy to move him on. Arsenal and Man U are both keen for new attacking options, and will see themselves as places where the attacker can find a home and start to thrive in a way he never has at Chelsea.
The battle over price will start now – but hopefully if we get both of those sides really interested we can try to push the fee up beyond £35m and towards the £52m we paid for him – which was seen as a bargain at the time, if you remember.
