How did the attendance at Turf Moor from Saturday's Lancashire derby compare with the rest of the Championship this weekend?

Burnley and Preston North End played out a feisty, and indeed controversial, 0-0 draw in Saturday's Lancashire Derby at Turf Moor.

North End looked to have taken the lead after a cleverly worked free-kick saw Emil Riis fire home from inside the box after just four minutes, before the celebrations were abruptly ended due to the offside flag being waved.

However, replays would suggest that Burnley may well count themselves lucky, as the Danish striker appeared to have timed his run to perfection, and thus the goal should've counted.

The Clarets would have their turn to feel aggrieved by an officiating decision in the second half, as Jaidon Anthony - despite his lack of protest - looked to have had his shirt pulled inside the box, but referee Gavin Ward wasn't interested.

It was a result that leaves Scott Parker's Burnley in third place, whilst it could prove to be a vital point for Paul Heckingbottom's Preston. But how many fans packed inside of Turf Moor to watch the latest renewal of this Lancashire rivalry?

According to FotMob, 20,816 supporters were in attendance for Saturday's game between the Clarets and the Lilywhites, with Turf Moor holding a capacity of 21,944.

A bumper crowd indeed when you take into consideration seats lost because of fan segregation etc. But, is it Burnley's largest home attendance of the season?

Using FotMob once again, the Clarets' 24/25 Championship home opener against Cardiff City, which saw Parker's side run out 5-0 winners, drew a crowd of 19,759. Whilst their 2-1 win over Portsmouth on 21 September attracted 20,476 through Turf Moor's turnstiles.

Burnley's smallest attendance of the season so far came on 1 October against Plymouth Argyle, as 18,779 saw an early Josh Brownhill penalty be all that separated the two sides. That leaves just one other home game, Blackburn.

The latest renewal of the East Lancashire Derby, also known as the Cotton Mills Derby, saw the Clarets and Rovers play out a 1-1 draw, with the occasion also drawing Burnley's largest home crowd of the season, at 21,042.

Due to the size of Turf Moor, Burnley will be no stranger to seeing larger crowds than theirs across the Championship. But, with just a couple of hundred-couple thousand seats spare for every home game so far this season, there won't be too many clubs selling out a larger percentage of their stadium than the Clarets.

However, let's see which second tier games from Saturday and Friday's fixtures drew a smaller attendance than Turf Moor's this weekend.

Portsmouth's meeting with Oxford United at Fratton Park saw a crowd of 20,125 watch two newly promoted sides play out a 1-1 draw, whilst 16,635 packed into Home Park to witness Plymouth Argyle beat Blackburn by two goals to one.

Swansea City attracted a crowd of just 14,546 for their 0-0 draw with Stoke City, whereas Vicarage Road welcomed 20,002 supporters through its turnstiles to see Watford beat Middlesbrough 2-1.

So, which Championship stadiums saw the biggest attendances across Friday and Saturday's fixtures? And how did they compare to Burnley's?

Well, 26,326 packed into Carrow Road to see Norwich City thrash Hull City by four goals to nil, whilst 28,671 attended the CBS Arena to witness Coventry City lose by two goals to one against Sheffield Wednesday.

29,305 supporters were inside of Pride Park to observe Derby County's 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, whereas 27,925 witnessed Sheffield United also claim a 2-0 win over fellow Premier League relegation sufferers Luton Town at Bramall Lane.

The Hawthorns registered an attendance of 24,158 for West Brom's 0-0 draw with Millwall, meaning it was Sunderland's crowd of 41,769 in their dramatic 2-2 draw with Leeds United at the Stadium of Light, that took the crown for this weekend's largest Championship attendance.
