Sam Dalby has completed a move to Bolton Wanderers following his exit from Wrexham
Ben Foster and Ollie Palmer are among the former and current Wrexham players to react to Sam Dalby’s move to Bolton Wanderers.
The Whites confirmed on Monday evening that the forward has joined on a four-year contract following his exit from the Welsh outfit.
The 25-year-old spent last season on loan with Dundee United, where he scored 15 times from 32 appearances in the Scottish Premiership.
But the expiration of his Wrexham contract has now led to him making the permanent switch to Bolton ahead of the new League One season.
Dalby has posted to social media confirmation of his move to Bolton, expressing his delight at this next step in his career.
The forward will be hoping to help Steven Schumacher’s side push for promotion after they finished eighth in the table last season.
“Delighted to have signed for [Bolton], can’t wait to get started!” wrote Dalby, via his Instagram account.
This has led to many of his former teammates responding to congratulate him on the move, including Foster and Palmer. The former goalkeeper acknowledged the deal with a clapping hands emoji, while the forward said: “Congrats mate.”
Wrexham goalkeeper Arthur Okwonkwo sent Dalby two smiling face with heart-eyes emojis.
“Love it mate!” wrote George Evans.
“Love it Dalby,” replied Max Cleworth.
Bolton will be hoping that Dalby can carry over his form from his time at Dundee United, where he helped the team finish fourth in the table.
The Terrors earned qualification for the Conference League qualifying rounds with a fourth place finish, with the now Bolton forward playing a key role.
Schumacher’s side will be aiming for a top six finish in League One, having missed out on the play-offs by 10 points last year.
This will be Schumacher’s first full campaign in charge, having been appointed as Ian Evatt’s replacement in January.
Dalby’s time at Wrexham saw him play regularly but never quite make it as a key part of the team, prior to going out on loan last summer.
But his form in the Premiership was quite impressive, and Bolton will be hoping he can keep that up when coming back to English football.
He scored 15 times for Dundee United and was crucial to their top four finish, showing a consistency in front of goal he hadn’t previously.
Given he’s a free agent signing, this is a relatively low risk move and getting it done early in the window is a good sign for Bolton’s proactivity in the market this summer.
