According to Sky Germany, Hoffenheim are “actively exploring” the possibility of signing Karlsuhe's David Herold - but there’s a twist. KSC is reportedly holding out for €6 million - a figure that would set a new club-record for the defender’s departure.
Herold’s journey has been steady and impressive: Trained at Bayern Munich’s youth academy, he joined KSC initially on loan before signing permanently in 2024 for a modest €750,000.
Last season, he was a regular in the starting lineup, clocking 33 appearances, cementing himself as a trusted member of the back line. His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, stands at €1.5 million - far less than the reported asking price for him.
Hoffenheim’s interest in Herold makes sense from a tactical standpoint: They already have Alexander Prass - signed for €12 million in 2024 - but he’s struggled to make a lasting impact.
Homegrown option Hennes Behrens and new signing Bernardo, who featured at left-back during the 4-0 cup win over Hansa Rostock, also offer competition. Still, Herold’s consistency and potential may appeal as a more long-term solution for Hoffenheim.
Die Sinsheimer have had a busy transfer window already: 17 arrivals for around €17 million, 18 departures for around €27 million - Herold could be the final puzzle piece for TSG-coach Christian Ilzer.
