Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim offered his thoughts on club captain Bruno Fernandes who has been heavily linked with an exit.

The 30-year-old isn’t only the club’s skipper and playmaker, but many consider him the Red Devils’ solitary world-class player.

The fallen Premier League giants finished their campaign in a record-low 15th place, but if it wasn’t for the Portugual international, relegation may have been a genuine threat. After all, Bruno contributed with 19 goals and as many assists across all competitions this season.

The midfielder’s impeccable talent and stunning exploits attracted the interest of several clubs around the globe, especially Al-Hilal who had already pursued him in the past. Reports claim that the Saudi Pro League giants are willing to splash lucrative figures to sway Fernandes.

However, Amorim insists that his compatriot has a major role to play in his plans next season, so he has no desire to deprive himself of the services of his most formidable star.

The Man Utd manager was speaking in a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, ahead of Wednesday’s post-season friendly against ASEAN All-Stars.

“The last game the team was without pressure, they performed quite well, everybody wants the ball, the team has different moments and in different moments Bruno [Fernandes] takes responsibility,” said the former Sporting CP manager when asked about the captain’s future (via Manchester Evening News).

“He’s really important for us and really important for what we want to build with this team.”

Hence, Man Utd fans are hoping that Amorim had already discussed this matter with Fernandes and INEOS, and that all parties have agreed to move forward together.

Nevertheless, the summer transfer market remains long and perilous, and the Red Devils’ weakening financial position could render them vulnerable to enticing offers.
