Manchester City have now reached an agreement over their second major signing of the summer, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano.
It follows fast-moving developments earlier this week that culminated in an agreement with AC Milan on Wednesday morning over the pending transfer of Tijjani Reijnders to the Etihad Stadium in an initial €55 million deal.
The Netherlands international is currently away on international duty alongside his future Manchester City teammate Nathan Ake, but is expected to finalise his deal alongside various medical tests over the course of the weekend.
Now, City officials have ensured that their momentum in the window continues by pushing ahead with the finalising of a deal for their primary left-back target, further bolstering a defensive unit that was added to by two fresh faces in the January market.
That follows a line of reporting emerging in Algerian media that indicated that Manchester City were awaiting the arrival of Rayan Ait-Nouri from his national team camp, who had sanctioned his exit and immediate flight to the North-West of England this week.
According to the information of transfer market insider Fabrizio Romano, Rayan Aït-Nouri to Manchester City can now be deemed as a ‘Here We Go’ after an agreement with Wolves for a total fee worth close to €40 million was reached.
It is further detailed that the 23-year-old is due to undergo medical testing with his new club on Saturday, after personally accepting the City project earlier in the week.
Additional reporting from The Telegraph’s John Percy has confirmed that the fee is expected to be around £35 million for the Algeria international, in a deal that is likely to also include add-ons.
Beyond the signing of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Manchester City are also expected to intensify their pursuit of Rayan Cherki in the coming hours and days, having already agreed personal terms with the 21-year-old over an Etihad Stadium switch.
Like with all of the other names targeted by City this summer, Cherki is currently away on international duty with France, but there is a firm intention to finalise a deal for the player ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Pep Guardiola has already had opportunity to speak about the arrival of new faces into his Manchester City squad this summer, but insisted that his only message for recruitment staff at the club is to sign ‘good players’.
“Give me good players. The rest, it doesn’t matter,” Guardiola told ESPN earlier this week. “Good players can adapt and adjust. We will adapt the movement, tactics or whatever we say as managers for the quality of players.”
Guardiola continued, “And especially [give me] players that go to Anfield, the Bernabéu, Camp Nou or wherever and say: ‘I’m going to play my best.’ That is the difference, top players have that. But we’re not adjusting for the fact we [had a tough season].
“If we win, I don’t have to adjust? That is a mistake. When you win, you also have to adjust. Day by day, game by game, week by week. We’re going to adjust some things, but not for the fact we just won the Community Shield.”
