After already signing Jeremie Frimpong for £29million earlier this month, Liverpool are now on the verge of completing their record-breaking move to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds have reached an agreement with Leverkusen worth £126million, including add-ons.
Romano reported: “EXCLUSIVE: Florian Wirtz to Liverpool, HERE WE GO!”
“Liverpool verbally agree deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen for package reaching €150m add-ons included.”
“Player side already agreed two weeks ago with move now imminent.”
“Wirtz set for medical and contract signing.”
The move will break Liverpool’s transfer record, which was last broke by Virgil Van Dijk’s £75million arrival from Southampton in 2018. Wirtz will also become the most expensive German player in history.
The arrival of Wirtz could be the final nail in the coffin of Harvey Elliott’s Liverpool career, which will be sad to see. Brighton and Newcastle United are two clubs certainly interested in signing the Liverpool youngster.
The likes of Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa, Joe Gomez and Kostas Tsimikas are all expected to leave this summer too.
You can also add Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Jarell Quansah to that list, although moves for them don’t seem likely anytime soon.
In terms of incomings, Liverpool remain in advanced talks to complete the signing of AFC Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez. The Hungarian is expected to cost in the region of £45million, with personal terms already agreed on that one.
Once that deal is wrapped up, Liverpool will likely turn their attention towards the centre-forward area. However, it is likely that an exit for Darwin Nunez will need to be sanctioned first.
Then it will be a case of signing another central defender, as Gomez and Quansah’s futures remain uncertain.
