Enzo Maresca has revealed he’s very happy with how Enzo Fernandez is doing at the moment after a recent upturn in his form.
Fernandez by his own admission has found things difficult in his first 18 months at Chelsea, and the start of this season wasn’t plain sailing for the Argentine.
The 23-year-old was caught up in a racism incident over the summer after Argentina won the Copa America, whilst he also lost his place in the Chelsea team.
However, since returning to the starting lime-up after the November international break Fernandez has been playing the best football of his Chelsea career.
The World Cup winner has three goals and three assists in his last six league matches and has started every league match since the November break.
Fernandez is playing the best football of his Chelsea career to date.
Martin Keown claimed Fernandez now looks unrecognisable, and it feels like he’s hitting the form he showed at the World Cup and more.
Fernandez is now one of the first names on the team sheet, whilst he’s shown real improvement off the ball and Maresca said before the Fulham game he was really happy with is progress.
“I think it’s good to be open minded but in the same time it’s good that they focus on what they have to do and we are there to help them,” he told his pre-match press conference.
“We try to explain these things to them. Enzo we are very happy with. Everton he was a holding midfielder with Moi for an hour then last half an hour we moved him into the pocket. In both positions he’s doing well. Helping us a lot and in terms of leadership he’s helping so we are happy.”
