Claude Makelele has stated he loves Moises Caicedo and revealed what the midfielder told him before joining Chelsea.

The Blues signed Caicedo for a then British record of £115m from Brighton in the summer of 2023, but the 23-year-old didn’t have the easiest start to life in Blue.

However, towards the end of Maurico Pochettino’s sole season in charge he picked his form up, and then went to another level under Enzo Maresca last season.

Makelele praises Moises Caicedo

Caicedo started all 38 Premier League games last season as Chelsea qualified for the Champions League, whilst he also played a part in the Conference League success.

The Ecuador international has been described as one of the best midfielders in the world by Maresca, and Caicedo cleaned up at Chelsea’s end of season awards.

Chelsea are set to begin talks over a new contract for Caicedo as a result of his fine form over the last season.

Makelele who knows what it takes to play in midfield for the Blues has shared his thoughts on Caicedo and revealed what the former Brighton man told him before he signed for Chelsea.

“With Caicedo, I love this boy,” he told Give Me Sport.

“He’s humble and hard-working. I talked with him before he arrived at Chelsea and he told me I was his example.

“I’m sure he can be a success at Chelsea because he’s a good player.”

Caicedo will be in action for the Blues at the Club World Cup, and Chelsea’s first game is on Monday against Los Angeles FC.

Essugo to provide much needed cover

Midfield is arguably the strongest area in the Chelsea squad, but it’s set to be reinforced further this summer with the arrival of Dario Essugo.
