Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has launched something of a bizarre defence of Jude Bellingham, on the back of the midfielder’s red card against Osasuna.

The name of youngster Bellingham has of course taken its place centre stage in the headlines across Spain on Saturday evening.

This comes after the England international was at the heart of an unusual incident, during Real’s La Liga meeting with Osasuna.

En route to an eventual 1-1 draw at El Sadar, Bellingham was given his marching orders late in the first-half.

The dismissal came largely out of the blue, amid an exchange between the former Borussia Dortmund star and referee Jose Munuera.

Speaking to the media on the back of the full-time whistle in Pamplona, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the decision was quickly put to Carlo Ancelotti.

And, in his efforts to defend Bellingham, Real’s headmaster conjured up something of a strange explanation:

“Bellingham said ‘if that’s a foul, then that was a penalty, f*ck off’. Bellingham didn’t do anything to deserve a red card. The referee didn’t understand English. He said ‘f**k off’ and not ‘f**k you’. The translation in Spanish is different.”
