Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has praised star player Cole Palmer who ‘can do anything’.
After receiving a guard of honour, champions Liverpool were defeated 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. Palmer put in a man-of-the-match performance and scored his first goal in three months.
Maresca maintained: “We saw Cole day-by-day and he is exactly the same. He is not happy when he doesn’t score because he wants to help the team.
“He is happy because he scored and we won but I haven’t seen a different Cole.
“We have three more games. Hopefully he can help us until the end.”
The Italian coach continued his praise of the 22-year-old: “Cole is that kind of player, he can do things that no one expects. When he has the ball I expect anything because he can do anything.”
Chelsea have also been boosted in recent weeks by the return of Romeo Lavia. Maresca declared: “You can see that we are a better team with Romeo. Unfortunately he has been injured for most of the season.
“Romeo is so important for the team.”
On the opposition he faced today, Maresca admitted: “Liverpool deserved to win the title because they have been consistent and have had the team available. Today they show the reason they have won the league.”
Despite this, Chelsea earned a valuable three points which will keep them in the Champions League places with just three games remaining.
After recent struggles, there was positivity around Stamford Bridge and Maresca insisted: “My feeling is it’s already been a long time from working with the players everyday. They are on the same page and going in the same direction. We have the right culture which is so important.
“The remaining games are all going to be tough but the reason we are so happy is because we have to win games. The environment today with the fans was the best of the season and it needs to be like that until the end.”
