The win sets up a last 16 clash against Portuguese giants Benfica who surprisingly beat Bayern Munich 1-0 on Tuesday evening.

Liam Delap on his connection with Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea just needed to avoid defeat against ES Tunis to progress, but Maresca made a number of changes with the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Christopher Nkunku, Filip Jorgensen and Josh Acheampong all starting.

It wasn’t best the first half performance but Chelsea got two goals in added time, with Delap scoring his first for the club.

The 22-year-old is proving to be a handful for opposition defenders and has added a much needed different dimension to Chelsea’s attack.

Delap scored his first goal against ES Tunis.

Having assisted Fernandez against LAFC, the Argentine returned the favour as he set Delap up for Chelsea’s second goal, and the striker spoke on his connection with the World Cup winner after the game.

“He’s an incredible player,” he told DAZN as cited on X.com.

“We’ve spoken as much as we can and he always told me to run when he gets the ball, and I did and he showed his quality with the pass today.”

Delap will likely lead the line again against Benfica on Saturday evening with Jackson suspended and Chelsea will be hoping he can once again find the back of the net.

Fernandez shows his quality
