Harry Kane has lamented Bayern Munich's inability to take advantage of Barcelona's high-pressing system in their thumping 4-1 defeat in the UEFA Champions League.

Bayern's trip to face Barcelona at the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys topped the midweek billing for matchday three games, with many expecting a closely fought affair between two of the most in-form teams in Europe.

However, fans were instead treated to a shockingly one-sided score-line in which a hat-trick from Raphinha and a goal from ex-Bayern star Robert Lewandowski secured a 4-1 win for the home side.

Current Bayern star Kane had drawn his team level in the first half after Raphinha had opened the scoring in the first minute, but the visitors wilted under the pressure of Barca's clinical counter-attacks thereafter, despite dominating possession.

Speaking to TNT Sports after the defeat, Kane lamented his team's inability to take advantage of Barcelona's high-pressing and also their quick transitional football.

"Obviously conceding an early goal didn't help us, but after that we had some good moments in the game and managed to draw level. We had a good first half where we created danger, but we need to be more ruthless," he said.

"Barca's high pressure gave us opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them and they punished us in the transitions. They have great players and today they showed their quality in the final third. We need to learn and improve. It was a disappointing night for us.

"I think we had a good moment [in the first half] and then we lost our way a bit, trying to make the final pass too quickly. I think if we had had more control of the game, more possession, the spaces would have appeared to create more chances. I think there was a bit of a rush trying to pass behind them.

"You have to learn. As I said, they press high and you don't always play against a defence like that. You have to get used to it and today we couldn't take advantage of that."

Bayern will be hoping to return to winning ways this weekend when they face off against VfL Bochum in the Bundesliga on Sunday afternoon.
