In a recent report by Javier Miguel in AS, it has been revealed that Raphinha will be stepping into a midfield role alongside Pedri for Barcelona’s upcoming matches against Monaco and Villarreal.
The Brazilian winger, currently in outstanding form, is set to play as an interior midfielder, which means he will have the freedom to move forward and support the attack.
Although Raphinha’s primary role has been on the wings, he has previously played in the midfield under Xavi’s management. Now, Hansi Flick is expected to utilise his versatility to strengthen the midfield alongside Pedri and Marc Casado.
Currently, Barcelona are missing several key midfielders. Frenkie de Jong, Fermin Lopez, and Gavi are all unavailable. De Jong, who has been sidelined for five months due to a sprained right ankle, has only recently started partial training with the team.

His exact return date remains uncertain and will depend on his recovery progress. On the other hand, Fermin, who suffered an injury to his rectus femoris muscle two weeks ago, is anticipated to make his comeback next week against Getafe.
Gavi, meanwhile, is in the final stages of his rehabilitation and is expected to be available for selection within two weeks. Furthermore, Dani Olmo is also out for at least month.
In the absence of these players, Raphinha’s impressive form at the start of the season has been a bright spot for Barcelona. The German coach plans to rely on Raphinha in the midfield role, while Ferran Torres is expected to fill the left-wing position.
Under Flick’s guidance, Raphinha has become a regular starter, featuring in all five official matches so far. His adaptability has been a key asset, as he has played across both wings and in the midfield, often supporting Robert Lewandowski in attack.
With his dynamic presence and flexibility, Barcelona aim to maintain their strong performance in the upcoming fixtures.
