Guardiola: Our only option is to win at Spurs

Pep Guardiola says City only have one alternative at Tottenham, which is to win, as the Premier League title race enters the final week of the season.

Arsenal regained top spot on Sunday following their 1-0 victory over Manchester United but the chance to win a record fourth successive title remains in our hands.

A win away to Spurs on Tuesday night in the 20:00 (UK) kick-off, will mean we go into our last match knowing that victory would secure the Premier League.

Anything less and the Gunners would remain at the summit, with their goal difference superior by three should we move level on points with a draw.

“It’s obvious I would say. We have one option, win the game. We will go from there,” the boss said at his prematch news conference.

“I have a theory as a manager, what we have done yesterday is over. [From the last four Premier League games,] 15 goals is fine and gives us the points to be here. It doesn’t give you an extra thing tomorrow for when we start the game.

“If we don't win we won't win the Premier League. It’s what we have to do, to know exactly what they are as a team.

“They are so demanding, always they have been there. They are more proactive than in the past than with different managers.

“They are so aggressive, losing 4-0 in Anfield and they continued to do the game plan and stick to what they believe.

“The difficulty is there. We know what we are playing for. To give us a chance at home depending on us. That’s our mindset.”

Guardiola is hoping to have a full squad to choose from with Jack Grealish missing the Fulham win through illness and Nathan Ake taken off in the first half with an injury.

The Dutchman is the only City player to score at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when we 1-0 in the FA Cup in January, our first win and goal in five attempts.

A win would give us the opportunity at making history on the final day but Guardiola says the players are only focused on a first Premier League victory at the venue.

“Our mindset is to do what we need to to win,” he added. “Focus on the work and it’s much better.

“Other situations will not be in your mind it's what we have to do because what we are playing for everyone knows.”
