Finlay Gorman said recording his first hat-trick to help City rack up a 6-0 FA Youth Cup quarter-final win at West Brom made for the perfect night.

The midfielder epitomised what was a superb all-round team display from Oliver Reiss’s youngsters, scoring just before and just after half-time before then sealing his treble in injury time.

With Matty Warhurst, Stephen Mfuni and Reigan Heskey also on target, it made for an emphatic victory that sent the reigning FA Youth Cup holders into Friday’s semi-final draw.

And for 16-year-old Gorman, whose proud family were present at the Hawthorns to witness his feat, it made for an occasion he will never forget.

“I'm buzzing with it, it's about time!,” Gorman said.

“It’s my first hat-trick with the Under-18s. I actually can't recall scoring any other hat-tricks, but this was special.

“After scoring the first two, I was pushing myself and getting in areas to try and get the hat-trick and it became a special night.

“It was also a special night for my family and myself.

“It's always nice to come to a big ground like this and play in front of a decent crowd.

“It was a big night and I’m just happy I made them happy tonight.”

The victory was the City youngsters’ eighth straight win across the first two months of 2025.

Reiss’s side are also top of the Under-18 Premier League North table and Gorman said the belief and confidence within the squad was sky high.

“The coaches are really happy with us. It's another step in the right direction and another statement for the rest of the country,” Finlay added.

“Confidence is high, we know the quality we have.

“We need to keep learning, keep getting better and keep blowing teams away like we have tonight.

“I definitely think there is more to come. Tonight was a big night, we turned up and showed our quality.

“It will be another special year if we can win two FA Youth Cups in a row. And we want to keep bringing back the Youth Cup to the CFA.

“With the team we have, when we're at our best like tonight we can beat any team.”
