Ousmane Dembélé (26) was present at last night’s UNFP awards after being nominated for Ligue 1 Player of the Season, an award that the winger would miss out on after falling short to his teammate Kylian Mbappé (25).

It would be Mbappé’s fifth consecutive Player of the Season and also his final one with the Paris Saint-Germain forward set to part with his hometown club at the end of the campaign. Mbappé the poster boy of the French league teased that he would be turning a page in his career.

Dembélé was quick to joke that Mbappé’s page would be turning to the Saudi Pro League, “Goodbye Kylian? Marcel Desailly said you’re going to Saudi Arabia.” A reference to a hot take from the former player who suggested that Mbappé should turn down Real Madrid for the Gulf State.

The night wouldn’t be a complete letdown for Dembélé – who likely suspected that his compatriot and friend would be winning the Ligue 1 Player of the Season – after he was included in the Ligue 1 XI of the Year.
