Juventus director general Cristiano Giuntoli comments on Fikayo Tomori and Joshua Zirkzee interest, especially as the defender starts for Milan in the Supercoppa. ‘You’d have to ask them.’

It kicks off at the Al-Awwal Park Stadium in Riyadh at 19.00 GMT.

The winners will be decided after 90 minutes or penalties, without the need for extra time, and go on to face Inter in the Final on Monday.

“Perhaps we were frustrated by the many injuries and missing a few points, but we are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel,” Giuntoli told Sport Mediaset.

There are some surprises in the Juventus starting XI, including Francisco Conceicao starting against his father Sergio, who makes his debut on the Milan bench.

Samuel Mbangula and left-back Weston McKennie also play, chosen ahead of Kenan Yildiz, Nico Gonzalez and Andrea Cambiaso.

“It’s a semi-final, so perhaps the coach wants to hold off and spread the strain over the squad ahead of the Final, players like Yildiz could also be used in the second half. It is more a tactical than a physical issue.”

Giuntoli was asked about the January transfer window opening up, especially as there were reports Juventus had talks with Milan for Tomori, but today the Englishman is back in the starting XI.

“The January transfer window is complicated, everyone will keep their cards close to their chest for a while and then we’ll see what happens.”

Does Tomori starting on Sergio Conceicao’s debut mean Milan are no longer prepared to sell?

“I don’t know, you’d have to ask them. Tomori is an interesting player, but there are others too. We need to wait and see what the needs of the other clubs are first, as the dynamics are different in January and we need some patience.”

Giuntoli was also asked about the links between Juventus and Zirkzee, who is struggling at Manchester United and might appreciate a reunion with his former Bologna coach Thiago Motta.

“Honestly, we have never spoken to Manchester United. They have some situations to resolve right now, I don’t know what could happen in future. Without talking about specific players, we will be keeping an eye out, but a lot depends on injuries for example to Milik.”
