The representatives of Manchester City target Gianluigi Donnarumma has issued a significant hint as to the player’s direction of travel during this summer’s market.

City’s goalkeeping situation has remained one of the most intriguing narratives of the summer, with Ederson’s future unresolved and Donnarumma repeatedly linked as a potential replacement.

Reports in recent weeks have suggested that Manchester City officials have made exploratory contacts with PSG and Donnarumma’s entourage, while waiting for clarity on whether Ederson will depart to Galatasaray.

The Premier League giants have already made significant moves in this department, re-signing James Trafford from Burnley for £31 million in what became a record fee for a British goalkeeper. Trafford’s return, alongside Pep Guardiola’s confidence in his long-term potential, was designed to secure the future.

Yet uncertainty around Stefan Ortega’s role, Ederson’s status, and PSG’s readiness to move on from Gianluigi Donnarumma has kept speculation alive. The Italian himself has been admired by Pep Guardiola for years, with the Italian’s physical profile and UEFA Champions League-winning experience making him a standout target.

PSG’s decision to sign French international Lucas Chevalier earlier this summer has further fuelled rumours of a potential exit, with reports in France claiming Donnarumma’s future will be clarified in the coming weeks.

Now, as per quotes provided by journalist Fabrizio Romano, Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent Enzo Raiola has said of his client, “Premier League is the right step for Gigio in my view, we’re working on it.”

Raiola continued, “There are zero talks with Italian clubs. We are still shocked by PSG behaviour with Gigio.”

The public admission from Raiola will only add fuel to the fire around City’s reported interest. With Pep Guardiola keen to keep Ederson as first-choice but open to preparing for the future, Donnarumma represents both a short-term solution and a long-term project.

Should Galatasaray succeed in luring Ederson away before the close of the window, City may have no choice but to accelerate talks with PSG and Donnarumma’s entourage. Even if the Brazilian stays, however, Raiola’s latest comments suggest that the Premier League will be the next stop for the Italian international.

For now, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has remained tight-lipped on the future of his current number one choice between the posts, telling reporters on Ederson after the weekend’s 0-4 win over Wolves, “I don’t have info. Today, I don’t have info.”

Guardiola added, “Yesterday I saw his illness with gastroenteritis, and it’s the only [thing] I know. And after I didn’t speak with Hugo [Viana] and the club, so I don’t have any news.”
