Ghisolfi before Roma kick-off versus Athletic Club: “We must play without fear” | OneFootball

Roma and Athletic Club are prepared to face-off at San Mamés for the return leg (2-1 agg.) of their Europa League Round of 16 showdown.

Speaking just before kick off, Giallorossi sporting director Florent Ghisolfi spoke to the media about the importance of the atmosphere and the expectations for Artem Dovbyk.

“The atmosphere? The home crowd always gives an extra push, that’s true,” the Frenchman told Sky Sport.

“Athletic also has the added motivation of knowing the Final will be played here, but that can also be an added pressure. Our families are here, and we have 2,000 Roma fans supporting us. We are ready to embrace this atmosphere.”

He continued, “We have champions on the pitch, and we must play our game with courage and without fear. We will give everything, and we’ll see if we return to Rome with qualification.”

Ghisolfi was also asked if striker Artem Dovbyk has something to prove given the stakes of the encounter.

“Let’s be transparent—it’s not easy being Roma’s number 9,” explained Ghisolfi.

“He needs time, but he has already shown his quality and mentality, scoring 14 goals so far. He did well in the first leg—e created chances, and wore down the defence, allowing (Eldor) Shomurodov to finish the job.”

With qualification on the line, Ghisolfi emphasized Roma’s belief and unity, as they look to secure a spot in the Europa League quarterfinals.
