The Brazil forward Geyse has joined Gotham FC on loan from Manchester United. The move comes after she described feeling lonely and being in agony after coming on as a late substitute in Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Leicester this month in a social media post. The comments came on the same evening that her agent claimed United had tried to loan her to other clubs while she attended her brother’s funeral in January.
On Instagram she wrote: “Staying in a place where we don’t feel happy is an agonising and lonely feeling. Every day seems heavier, and the simple fact of being there becomes a burden. The environment, which should be welcoming, becomes a field of discomfort, where inner peace is difficult to find.”
Geyse will play under the former Tottenham head coach Juan Carlos Amorós when the move is finalised, subject to international clearance.
“The loan deal is important to Geyse as we continue to have her wellbeing at the centre of our decision-making,” said United’s interim head of women’s football, Matt Johnson. “We wish her well with Gotham.”
Geyse, 26, signed from Barcelona in 2023 and scored three goals in 39 appearances for United. “I chose Gotham FC because they have a winning profile and a lot of ambition to win titles,” she told the New Jersey club’s website. “I can’t wait to wear this jersey.”
