FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit has reflected on George Hall’s impending move to Walsall.

Birmingham City’s summer transfer window activity is ramping up as the 2025-26 campaign approaches.
Excitement is brewing for all connected with the West Midlands outfit after smashing the record League One points tally and resoundingly lifting the third-tier title last term, with Blues expected to be significantly backed financially by Tom Wagner as they search for a return to the Premier League as quickly as possible.
As they aim to build a squad good enough to be competitive in the second tier, Birmingham are set to sanction the exit of young central midfielder George Hall, who has struggled with a number of injury issues.
FLW exclusively revealed that the 20-year-old is set to complete a permanent switch to fellow Midlands side Walsall, after he spent the season on loan with the Saddlers, playing 14 times in League Two.
With this news in mind, FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit has reflected on Hall’s time at Blues.
Speaking to Football League World, Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore has expressed his disappointment of seeing George Hall on the verge of joining Walsall, believing he is good enough for the Championship but that consistent time on the sidelines has haltered his progress.
Moore said: “I think the problem with George Hall is his injuries, but there’s 100% a player there, we rated him and people inside Blues rated him more highly than Jobe (Bellingham). We thought he was going to be the next Jude Bellingham.
“As long as he trusts his body and his body doesn’t let him down, then there’s still a player in there. He can still do it, he might just reach it a bit later in his career.
“He’s definitely good enough for the Championship, more than good enough, he just needs to be somewhere currently where he’s playing, and get a bit of confidence back as he hasn’t been great.
“I don’t think Walsall is the right move, but if Walsall is the move he wants to make, it’s local to him, he can play, and as long as his body holds up, he won’t be there for long at all anyway.
“He’s only a young lad, he’s definitely Championship level, he’s Championship level already, so hopefully he can crack on and get on with his career as there’s definitely a player in there. He’s just, unfortunately, not good enough to be at us, especially with the pace Blues are moving at, hopefully it can work out for him.”
It will be very disappointing news for Birmingham City supporters to take, particularly as George Hall had shown signs that he could be a superstar at St. Andrews.
He was voted as Birmingham’s Young Player of the Year back in 2022-23, but a series of injury setbacks have derailed that previous momentum.
Despite being a player with a lot of promise, Birmingham are on the rise as a club, and need as many fit and healthy players to help deliver success on the pitch as possible.
Ultimately, Hall isn’t reliable enough to maintain his fitness over a 46-game season, and Blues will not be wanting to pay a player who is sitting on the treatment table for the majority of the campaign.
At Walsall, Hall will hopefully play regularly and get some trust back into his body, hopefully building his career back up from there after such promising early stages.
