Daniele De Rossi’s side are back in action this weekend, and hit the road to face Genoa on Sunday.

Roma travel to Liguria this weekend to face Genoa on Sunday during the lunch hour kick-off. The capital club are still in search of their first win of the season while Alberto Gilardino’s side hope to bounce back from their defeat to Hellas Verona.

Kick-off is scheduled for 12.30 CET in Liguria at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris.

Roma

It’s been a frustrating start to the season for Roma. The capital club collected only 2 points in their first three games and have struggled with a lack of creativity and goalscoring.

They’ve only found the back of the net once and managed only one shot on goal in their 0-0 away draw to Juventus before the international break. Though, there’s still reason for optimism after the Giallorossi’s squad overhaul during the recent summer transfer window.

De Rossi will have almost his entire squad at his disposal for the match against Genoa, including new signings Mario Hermoso and Mats Hummels. Notably, he is expected to change the Giallorossi’s formation, shifting to a three-man defence.

This tactical switch could provide more room for wingbacks, with Alexis Saelemaekers likely to start on the right, ahead of Zeki Celik. The only significant absentee is midfielder Enzo Le Fée, who remains sidelined as he recovers from a muscle injury sustained against Empoli.

Captain Lorenzo Pellegrini, who suffered a muscle injury while on international duty, has fully recovered and participated in Thursday’s training, signaling his likely return to the midfield lineup.

Genoa

The hosts have been one of the biggest surprises in the early rounds of Serie A following a dismal summer transfer market campaign.

Despite losing their top two scorers (Albert Gudmundsson & Mateo Retegui) and first choice goalkeeper (Josep Martinez) from last season, Alberto Gilardino’s men have started strong, collecting 4 points through their first three games.

After holding Inter to an opening-day draw, the Rossoblu defeated Monza in round two for their first win of the season. However, the Rossoblu endured a 2-0 defeat at home against Verona prior to the international stoppage, managing just one shot on target over the full 90 minutes.

To make matters worse, Gilardino was dealt a setback last week with the news that young midfielder Fabio Miretti has suffered yet another injury. The on-loan Juventus player had to cut his training session short last Friday after experiencing a muscle issue.

The news came as a blow to the Ligurians given Miretti had only returned to full fitness just a few days prior. His absence puts more responsibility on the shoulders of summer signing Andrea Pinamonti—who scored the winner in their victory over Monza late last month.
