AC Milan have plenty of fans that they are able to call upon for support, and they also have players within the squad who grew up with an attachment to the squad including two unlikely players: Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport write, the performances on the field from the two summer signings has impressed Milan supporters, with Morata scoring on debut to spark a comeback against Torino and Abraham coming off the bench to set up Rafael Leao for the equaliser against Lazio.

It is the words of the strikers that has fired up Rossoneri fans more though. Morata in an interview a few days ago with Sky spoke about the upcoming derby, revealing that he has actually attended previous Milan-Inter games in disguise.

“I can’t wait to play the derby. Now I can say it for the first time. I came to San Siro to see a couple as a fan, with my cap and dark glasses. No one noticed me,” he said.

“I wanted to breathe in the atmosphere, from the outside you realise how much this match is worth. I can’t wait to score in a derby and win it, to make the Milan fans feel proud.

“Inter are very competitive, they have a great team, you have to play with heart. You can also make a mistake in a pass or a chance, but you have to give it your all. You have to be hungry in a derby, you can’t make a mistake.”

At the root of his sympathy for Miln as a club are also the examples of Fernando Torres and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, both of whom passed through Milan at different moments in their respective careers.

“Zlatan is one of my greatest idols, I always asked him everything through friends. It makes me dream to be next to him,” Morata said in his first press conference.

“Then I heard from Kakà, I spoke with Sheva, Pato and Beckham. He told me that you can see that there is something different in Milan, a large part of the history of football was written here.”

The concept of history also comes up repeatedly in Abraham’s first interview, given to Milan TV shortly after his presentation with the Rossoneri in which he admitted that he had a strong soft spot for the red and black growing up.

“I think this is an excellent team, I grew up watching Milan. When I saw that they were interested in me, I could only wait. Many times I told myself that this was the place I wanted to be,” he said.

“I want to get on the pitch. Physically I’m fine, I’m recovering from an injury. I’m at the club I grew up with as a child, its trophies, its players. Being at Milan, in this fantastic city and in this stadium, is beautiful. The dream is to make history for this club.”

For Abraham and Morata, the road to achieving this will be long, but the start is not bad and it has certainly got fans on side.
