AC Milan are progressing positively towards being able to announce the renewal of Mike Maignan’s contract, according to a report.
La Gazzetta dello Sport published a double-page spread this morning which gives an update on all the key contract situations at Milan, and they opened with a segment about Maignan who is ‘happy’ at the club.
He quickly erased the memory of Gianluigi Donnarumma following his arrival from Lille, and with some decisive saves and helped Milan win the Scudetto. In recent months there has been some interest from abroad for him, but the club never started negotiations to sell him.
Now, before the end of the season, the directors want to get to his signature on a new contract. The will of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Giorgio Furlani and Geoffrey Moncada – influenced by Donnarumma’s exit in 2021 – want Maignan to extend before the start of the 2025-26 season.
‘Magic Mike’ currently earns €3.2m net per season and his new salary could reach around €5m, until 2029. It would not be the last contract of his career but it would take him into his 30s (he turned 29 over the summer).
The idea of the Frenchman retiring with the Rossoneri is understood to be appealing to all parties, and it is something a long-term renewal would help become more realistic.
