Things might not exactly be rosy at AC Milan at the moment, but fans snapped up the tickets for the derby against Inter later this month within hours.

La Gazzetta dello Sport talks about how Milan fans ‘protest, but support’ because the tickets for the away sector for the derby were sold out in a few hours, as confirmed last night by the message on the official Milan website.

It is not a surprise – it’s a derby, there was no doubt about it – but the speed is striking. It took just a few hours, from 12:00 CEST to the evening, to sell the 8,731 tickets reserved for Milan fans for the match on Sunday 22 September.

The derby for Milan will be very delicate but the fans, despite the criticism of the last week, will support the team as always. Inter-Milan comes after the six derbies lost in a row by Stefano Pioli against Simone Inzaghi, so there is a score to settle.

More than two years have passed since the 3-2 win in the 2022-23 post-Scudetto season at the beginning of September 2022, and now the memory is the 2-1 defeat in May that handed the 20th league title to their rivals.

It seemed like Milan were the masters of the city, instead a long crisis followed. Speaking of crisis, Paulo Fonseca’s Milan are not doing well and so the match against Inter – which comes after the games against Venezia and Liverpool – will bring pressure for results.

There is a good chance that the first derby of this season will become the richest match ever in the history of Serie A. It is heading towards €7m in revenues, overtaking the €6.6m of Inter-Juventus, an absolute record in Serie A since October 2019.
