Gian Piero Gasperini insists that winning the Scudetto with Roma in his first season is not a particularly realistic expectation, and has instead claimed that finishing in the top four is the ‘best’ that the Giallorossi can ask for in 2025-26.
The former Atalanta head coach was officially unveiled in front of the media at his introductory press conference on Tuesday.

Gasperini told the press that ‘Roma can’t win the Scudetto’ and has instead set out a list of realistic expectations for his first season in charge of the club.
The 67-year-old claims that qualifying for the next edition of the Champions League is the utmost priority, as well as improving the team with new signings and the development of players already in the squad.
“The best result will be qualification to the Champions League. Right now, Roma can’t win the Scudetto, but you never know,” Gasperini said, reported via Sky Sport Italia.
He continued: “For me, the goal is to make this team stronger, with more national and international players that we don’t have at the moment. We have to create a strong core and have continuity. That makes teams grow.”
Gasperini was also asked what, and who, needs to change ahead of the start of the 2025-26 campaign, to which he replied: “Let’s start with what is already there for the meantime, which is a lot.

“It’s also clear that we can’t be the same (as last year) and I expect the incoming market can lead to improvement. It will be a mix, not a revolution everywhere, but there will be new components to improve us.
“There are very few clubs that can afford to sign already-established players. You have to build them at home by signing players who are able to grow. I remember Mancini or Cristante, to name two that I had. They left Atalanta and got to the national team early.
“My players must aim to have the best season of their careers, if you are 22 years old or 30.”
