In an interview with L’Équipe, Gareth Southgate has revealed Harry Kane’s (30) disappointment after an underwhelming season with no trophies at Bayern Munich.

High expectations were placed on Kane after his high-profile switch from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window of 2023. The England captain has had many nearly moments in his career for both club and country where he has missed out on an elusive piece of silverware at the final moment.

Kane’s move to Bayern Munich, Germany’s most successful club, was expected to be the final solution which would see the 30-year-old win silverware. However, that has not been the case with the German club enduring their first trophyless season since 2012.

‘He’s disappointed’

Quizzed by L’Équipe about Kane’s motivation after a trophyless season in the Bundesliga, the England manager said, “I don’t think he needs to be any more motivated than he already is. Obviously, Harry is disappointed, but this experience has been very positive. Today he plays in a big club where you have to win every week, and when that’s not the case, it’s a tragedy. You have to be used to these expectations because they are the ones we are faced with at England.”

Despite his prolific goalscoring record and Southgate’s success in charge of England, Kane is yet to lead his country to international glory as captain. With EURO 2024 in Germany fast approaching, the former Tottenham forward will be hoping to end his country’s and his long wait for silverware.
